The CTTC Valley Chapter released the following information on June 1, 2021 re: their Friday, June 18, 2021
field trip at 10:00 AM PDT.
As members of the Valley Chapter of the California Turtle & Tortoise Club, you are invited to attend a special behind the scenes tour of the
America's Teaching Zoo located on the campus of Moorpark College in Moorpark, California. This unique program, one of only two in the
United States, features the sought-after Exotic Animal Training & Management (EATM) curriculum for those students with the career goal of
working in a zoo, entertainment industry, and other animal husbandry fields.
The EATM designation indicates that these graduates have been thoroughly trained in the proper and humane management of animals.
Graduates have found many rewarding careers throughout the United States and help to ensure that proper techniques and skills are being used
What will we see?
We will start out visiting the Reptile House where our guide will bring out many of their exotic reptiles and amphibians, among them the
Argentine Tegu lizard, Clarence, their giant Galapagos tortoise (Geochelone nigra) (who is 98 years old!), Eastern Box turtle, Leopard
tortoise, Sulcata tortoise, and a Snapping turtle.
We are also hoping to experience the lions getting a meal. We better behave ourselves or someone might be on the menu!
Spaces are limited so respond by Wednesday, June 9. Priority goes to CTTC members.
To register, please contact
Bob Hazard.
All guests over 2 years old are required to wear a mask at all times, and we will be acknowledging proper social distancing protocol as per the
Moorpark College rules.
