Fundraising Goal Achieved!

In May of 2023 the Sofa Cushion Challenge achieved the financial goal set by the Valley Chapter of the California Turtle and Tortoise Club (CTTC) prior to the pandemic. And we couldn't have done it without our supporters! Thank you so much!

What Will the Funds Be Used For?

The Sofa Cushion Challenge was created as a fundraiser to help the sick and injured tortoises rescued by the California Turtle & Tortoise Club - Valley Chapter. The ultimate aim was to give those animals the veterinary care and rehabilitation they needed and then adopt them out to forever homes. The stories and slide shows of twelve of these tortoises can be viewed on the Sofa Cushion Challenge Gallery.

Where did the Sofa Cushion Challenge idea come from?

The very first time I published the term "Sofa Cushion Challenge" was in 2005 when I suggested it to readers of my blog as a way to support the Red Cross, South Asian Tsunami Relief Fund. There's a link to Archive.org's 2005 snapshot of that page along with much additional information here. The stories behind the creation of the Gallery and GoFundMe page are both here. — CH

Has anyone famous ever taken the Sofa Cushion Challenge?

Yes! Ian Brown, the London-based author of the "ALBERT the Tortoise" children's picture book series took the Sofa Cushion Challenge! He also made Albert the Sofa Cushion Challenge's UK ambassador! See his Sofa Cushion Challenge video along with links to numerous articles, TV and radio appearances here!

How can I get involved?

There are many ways to get involved! Perhaps the easiest is to like and follow the CTTC-Valley's Facebook Page.

If you live in Southern California and have a yard that you wouldn't mind converting into a turtle or tortoise habitat, you might adopt a turtle or tortoise from the CTTC. Adoption is free. Additional adoption critera and information can be found here. Also for those in Southern California is the CTTC-Valley's annual, live Turtle & Tortoise Show. Updates are posted on their website and Facebook Page.

You might enjoy becoming a CTTC-Valley member. Members get a subscription to the Tortuga Gazette. There are also monthly meetings, visiting speakers, fieldtrips and more, as well as access to many knowledgeable people who can answer your questions and help you with all the best practices for keeping your own turtle or tortoise happy and healthy.

Finally, whenever in doubt, Donations are always welcome. Thank you for your support!
